A
few months ago on The Source Report, we were joined by Malcolm
Forbes, Jr., who turned us on to his cost-cutting methods in the
area of health care. Forbes cut his company's health insurance costs
substantially without sacrificing any of his employees' health benefits.
Here
to pick up on that theme, is the president of the National Business
Coalition on Health. Sean Sullivan, welcome to The Source Report....You've
been examining the reasons behind rising health care costs. What
are your conclusions?

Our
next guest on The Source Report describes herself as a "social
entrepreneur." Vanessa Kirsch is the founder and executive
director of the non-profit organization Public Allies. Vanessa's
work has not gone unnoticed. In fact, the Clinton Administration
has selected Public Allies as a demonstration model for the National
Service Program. Vanessa Kirsch, welcome to The Source Report....Before
we discuss National Service Week, tell us about Public Allies. What
prompted you, at age 26, to create a public service organization?

William
Edwards Deming. Does the name ring a bell? Probably
not unless you're Japanese. Deming, who died recently, was
born in Iowa in 1900, but accomplished his major life work in Japan.
Deming brought his management philosophy to Japan following World
War Two, and, well now we're all driving Hondas and listening
to Sonys. Our next guest on The Source Report spent years
learning from Deming. Clare Crawford-Mason is the co-author (along
with Lloyd Dobbins) of the book Thinking About Quality: Progress,
Wisdom and the Deming Philosophy. Welcome to The Source Report....Before
I ask about Deming's philosophy, give us some idea how the Japanese
people regard this man.

Medical
doctors have discovered a great many treatments, preventions and
cures for numerous human ailments. Thanks to medical advances, we
live longer than our ancestors and suffer much lower rates of child
mortality. Still, there are those who believe the medical community,
as we tend to think of it, is too narrow in its focus, and should
include so-called alternative treatments. Our guest, Tony Martinez,
is the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Nutritional Health
Alliance. Welcome to The Source Report....You know, Tony,
modern medicine has a pretty good track record. Why do we need alternatives?

If
Lawrence Welk, and singing cowboy, Roy Rogers, can have their own
museums, then by golly rock and roll should have one
as well! And now it does. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
is scheduled to have its last beam hoisted into place next Thursday,
July 28th, in Cleveland, Ohio. The director of this soon-to-be illustrious
institution joins us now. Dennis Barrie, welcome to The Source
Report....This is no small undertaking, is it?
