The Source Report
Host: Dirk Van
Show # 780

Almost every child, at one time or another, has been told not to talk to strangers. Yet, children continue to fall victim to abduction and abuse at the hands of adults. Our first guest on The Source Report is Barbara Webber, Executive Director of The Good Knight Campaign for Protection. Webber describes the education efforts of her organization, which teaches schoolchildren to recognize tricks used by would-be abductors. These adults, Webber explains, play on a child's sympathy to lure the youngster into danger.

Sometimes it seems the hardest person to get along with is the one you love the most. Our next guest on The Source Report shares some ideas for creating a more positive relationship. Clinical psychologist and family therapist Dr. Robert Schweibel has written a book entitled, Who's On Top, Who's On Bottom: How Couples Can Learn to Share Power. Among other things, Schweibel suggests we learn to leave our competitiveness behind at the office, rather than bringing it home where it does not belong.

Make no bones about it! Dinosaurs may be dead - but dinosaur hunters are alive and well. Random House has just published Hunting Dinosaurs, a book by National Geographic photographer, Louie Psihoyos, who spent four years and travelled 250,000 miles interviewing, photographing and working with the world's top paleontologists at sites around the globe. Psihoyos, who joins us on The Source Report, fills us in on some of the more colorful characters in the short history of dinosaur-bone hunting, and describes his own experiences digging for dinosaur remains.

It was a whirlwind first hundred days in the US House of Representatives. Now Congress is back from spring break. Will the Senate play catch up, or just drag its collective feet? Joining us on The Source Report is Phil Duncan, editor of Congressional Quarterly's Politics in America. Duncan speculates on what we might expect from Congress and the President, as well as the myriad of Republican Presidential contenders, during the coming year.

Sidney Lumet has directed forty full-length feature films, from Twelve Angry Men in 1957 to Guilty As Sin in 1993. Lumet's films have been nominated for more than fifty Academy Awards. He is currently working on number forty-one (which he is too superstitious to discuss) and has completed a book entitled Making Movies. Lumet joins us on The Source Report to discuss his career and the work that goes into making films.
